These Sons of Liberty
The Boston Tea Party, well famed for the colonists’ opposition to taxation, has its own interesting history.
Oh, those songs
During those Revolutionary years, songs written to inspire and actuate an audience were rather common. And, so it is we have this song. My friend Karen Q from episode 48 provided me with the text of a song about taxation and slavery. It’s a very fun ditty and a couple of readings determines a beat.
As poetry goes, it has decent meter and a good rhyme scheme. But I find the most interesting part the message much in favor today with libertarians, taxation is theft.
Of course as we enter the election season a bit more in earnest, then almost full throttle in January, 2020, have a keen sense of history and of what is the proper role of government makes a big difference.
To get the message out, and to look fabulous, I’ve designed a T-shirt with the song’s text.
Fashion and fun wrapped into one.
Be brave, boys.
